Cluster flies are black and slightly smaller than house flies. Cluster flies can be very troublesome in winter months, particularly with warmer winters, these flies are becoming active through the winter, not just autumn and spring. Cluster flies breed in fields in the summer and hibernate under wall cladding and in roof voids in the winter.
Cluster flies can be dealt with in several ways, the most effective is using an electrified grid cluster fly killer (we sell specially adapted
ones).
They prefer the dark and can crawl into amazingly small places to hibernate.
In the spring and summer the flies group together and fly around the room or patio, in the same spot, in circles. They
are not looking for food so conventional or DIY flytraps do not work.
The key to controlling cluster flies is to apply insecticide in the
winter, but if this is not possible there are a number of remedies when
the adults are flying around your porch or patio.
